Social & Emotional Support
The STEM Student Support Team is invested in the Emotional Wellness and Social Development of all STEM students. We respond to student needs by providing direct counseling with students, consultation with parents and teachers, and providing students and families with resources, information, and referrals.  These services are available to all students and is often student-initiated. However, teachers, parents or guardians may also refer students for assistance. Services provided by the STEM Student Support Team are delivered through such strategies as:

  • Individual and small-group counseling:  Counseling may be provided in small groups or on an individual basis for students experiencing difficulties with social relationships and emotional wellness.  Such counseling is normally short term.
  • Crisis prevention and intervention:  Crisis counseling provides prevention, intervention and follow-up as necessary to support students and families facing emergency situations.  Such counseling is normally short term and referrals are made to appropriate community resources when necessary.
  • Consultation:  The STEM Student Support Team may need to consult with parents or guardians, teachers, other educators, and community agencies regarding strategies to help students and families.
  • Referrals:  Our team is also here to assist with referrals to resources specializing in crisis situations such as suicidal ideation, grief and loss, violence, abuse, depression and family difficulties.
*The STEM Student Support Team does not provide therapy.  When necessary, referrals are made to appropriate community resources.
