The STEM School opened its doors on August 15, 2011 with 435 students in grades six through nine. In 2012-13, enrollment grew, another grade was added, and the student population reached over 600 students. As the program grew, it quickly became apparent the school needed more classrooms. New classrooms were added and additional staff was added to accommodate the needs of the students. On April 21st, 2014, the STEM High School officially opened creating a defined space between the Middle and High School. In August 2015, STEM increased its capacity to include an elementary school, beginning first with grade 5. Starting in August 2016, STEM officially became a K-12 school with the addition of kindergarten through 5th Grade!
STEM Formula for Character
STEM School expects all students, parents, faculty and staff to abide by the STEM Formula for Character: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty and Integrity.
STEM K12 is designed to provide a rigorous core education during with a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math curriculum focus. STEM works toward setting a higher, more rigorous academic standard and believes that when we expect more, we will get more. We work to ensure that students fully master the basic skills in reading, writing, communication, math and critical thinking. Students are taught career navigation skills, business ethics with character education, personal responsibility, teamwork and problem solving with creativity.
Students may participate in internship programs at one of the many high tech corporations in the South Metro area. Colorado’s high-tech companies will participate directly so that theory becomes profitable, applied science.
STEM School will offer STEM enrichment classes for 6-12 home school students. Students will receive 180 hours per year of engaged STEM instruction, from Colorado licensed or highly qualified instructors, in state-of-the-art labs and high tech classrooms.
At the STEM Middle School we focus on a rigorous education that incorporates essential middle level skills and character development. We utilize problem-based learning to increase student engagement in real world problems, while developing 21st century skills. Our teachers are experts in teaching appropriate use of technology, collaboration, teamwork and organization. We also work tirelessly to nurture and develop integrity, respect, responsibility and honesty among students. We pride ourselves in offering an exceptionally engaging education while encouraging well rounded student development.
About STEM Elementary School
At the STEM Elementary School we focus on providing a rigorous and relevant core education that integrates essential STEM skills and concepts within literacy, mathematics, social studies and science. Problem based learning and 21st century skills are embedded through the use of technology, critical thinking, and collaboration to engage students in authentic and real world issues. All elementary students will participate in specials classes that include art, music, physical education, technology, engineering, Chinese, and an integrated STEM course. Character development is key as we nurture and develop responsible and respectful elementary students.
All STEM School students have access to the services of STEM Academy. We contract with STEM Academy to run our extra curricular and most after school activities. They are a privately funded separate non-profit arm that manages the Expanded Learning Time (ELT), after-school activities and the Research Laboratories. While many public schools limit the educational opportunities during regular school hours, STEM K12 offers fee-based expanded learning time opportunities for students through the STEM Academy. Expanding the school day provides an opportunity to reinforce the relevance of the subjects students are studying and to keep them engaged and in school. Industry professionals, working alongside certified instructors will provide credited Activity-based, Project-based and Problem-based Learning (APPB) for dual enrollment credit, career specific classes, STEM Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification classes and STEM Homeschool Enrichment Classes.
